Poll: Did Dave Gettleman Ruin the Panthers This Season?

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

After a rough start to the 2016, the Panthers are now falling behind in the NFC South and their chances of making the playoffs drop every week their is a loss added to their record. There has been a lot of confusion surrounding how is to blame for the Panthers terrible efforts this season. We all want to point fingers at someone, but the truth is most of the roster is to blame.

I have come to the consensus that the coaching staff and management may be more to blame than the players. Mike Shula has called some very risky, controversial plans and hasn't let Cam Newton play the way he likes to play. Newton is noticeably better when he is using an uptempo offense and changing up the plays at the line. The Panthers defense has been more than ever. The pass rush is almost non-existent and the secondary is usually out of position. There has been a lot of confusion between Rivera and McDermott on who to start. The younger players are making too many mistakes. They let Julio Jones run for 300 yards and allowed Matt Ryan to throw for over 500 yards. That is not like the Panthers. Teams have scored five TDs and racked up 648 yards in the last six quarters alone.

I used to have a lot of faith in Dave Gettleman, but he has been making too many poor decisions this season. The Panthers have plenty of cap space (around $19 million) and had numerous chances to obtain a defensive end, offensive guard, or cornerback. Instead he likes to play the game cheap and force some younger guys to make plays. It has worked in the past, but now it is all blowing back in his face.

Now the Panthers have released Bene Benwikere after three years with the team. He is only 25-years-old. Coaching staff said the reason they wanted to get rid of him was to find a younger guy. How much younger can you get? Might as well sign Cam Newton's son.

Instead of going after a position they need, they bring back Bersin after letting him go for two days. What exactly was the reason behind that? Does he play safety? Is he going to beef up and play offensive guard?

I think that Dave Gettleman has been hurting these players confidence. He keeps messing with the lineup and instead of correctly the problem he brings in another player on the cheap. Cam has been forced to play and keeps getting speared in the head. The team has stayed relatively the same as last year, but the Panthers have lost their winning attitude. They lost the fire inside them. Nobody has tried to help correct the problem thus far. Josh Norman commented after the game that "you get what you pay for." I hate to admit it, but he is right.

Let me know what you guys think about all the roster changes and Dave Gettleman's decisions.
