Cam Newton's Talk With Commissioner Goodell

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

A source has notified ESPN's Ed Werder that the rough hit by Calais Campbell in week eight should have been a flag. If you listen closely you can hear all the Panthers fans yelling, "No shit."  No flag was thrown when Campbell dove for Netwon's ankles twisting him to the ground. Newton has taken the most hits out of any quarterback since 2011 (813). He also gets the least amount of flags thrown.

Newton has finally spoken on the issue that has been bothering him all this time:

"I don’t think there’s a person that can go through what I go through and still keep their heads," he said after the game, per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. "Hits to the head, that’s one thing. But when you’re not protected in the pocket, that’s another thing." He goes on to talk about how the game isn't fun for him anymore and he doesn't feel safe.

Today he told the media that he had a "great conversation" with Roger Goodell. He commented on how they both got made their point understood. When asked about if there will be any changes to player safety, Newton replied "I hope," per Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

In addition, Ron Rivera and Dave Gettleman both talked to Goodell and league executives earlier this week.

As always there are going to players and media staff that go against Cam Newton. Steelers offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert doesn't feel Newton deserves any sympathy.

"Ben [Roethlisberger] gets hit more than anybody in the league, and he never complains," Gilbert told Jeremy Fowler of "C'mon, man. This is the game of football. If you're out there and you're scared to take a shot, then don't be out there, especially if you're a running quarterback. [Defenses] are going to take shots at you."
