Houstan Texans Made a Big Mistake Paying Brock Osweiler Big Bucks

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Once a second string quarterback, is now living the dream making big bucks and starting every game. Brock Osweiler used to back up Peyton Manning when he was with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos weren't going to pay him well, so the Houston Texans gave him a huge contract (for a backup) of $72 million with $37 million guaranteed over the first two years.

The Texans managed to just slide into the playoffs in 2015 by winning the AFC South with a record of 9-7. They made a big roster move by picking up Osweiler in hopes of getting a better record in 2016. However that has not been the case. The team is just barely operating about .500 with a record of 6-5 in an easy division. The team is not winning games because of his talent and leadership. Osweiler was performing terribly against the Chargers at home this past weekend. The Texans lost 21-13 in a game they should have won. Oweiler completed less than 50% of his throwing attempts and threw three interceptions.

This season he has only started two games without throwing an interception. In three games he has started he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Last game marked the fifth game this season he has performed with a passing rating below 70.

According to PFF, Osweiler is tied with Fitzpatrick for worst performing quarterback this season behind Case Keenum. The guy who led the Los Angeles Rams to a 4-5 record before being benched for Goff.

Here is a chart to compare Brock Osweiler 2016 (second row) and Brian Hoyer (2015):

The statistics do not lie. No wonder the Broncos did not care about trying to bet to keep Oweiler.
